School is back!

Okay people. Let’s lighten things up a little for the week! After my 5k efforts on Sunday, I was pretty knackered in the evening, but I knew that if I wanted the first week back at school to run smoothly, some lunch prep would be in order. Thankfully Quinn and Julius were super keen to help with ham and cheese, and vegemite and cheese scrolls, so we got them out of the way after dinner.

Then on Monday evening, Chance was keen to make himself some sushi for the week, and Quinn was in charge of the ANZAC bikkies. I did some of the prep, but the kids did most of the work!

I’m not going to lie. There was certainly a part of me that thought I’d prefer to just do it all myself, my way, and in my time. But what good is that going to do me in the years to come? Even though there was more mess, and the bikkies weren’t perfectly round, and the sushi was a little wild, I could not have been more proud of the kids’ efforts. And they were super chuffed as well.

It’s just another instance where I have to remind myself that I don’t have to do all the things all the time for all the kids. They are getting more skilled and more interested in (certain) household tasks, and food prep is definitely something they can be more involved in.

First day back, walking to school with all the things

I’m not sure how we can possibly be in term 4, but that is just 2020 all over, am I right? And just to end with a fun fact – today was the day that I would have flown to America for two weeks, child free, if Covid hadn’t broken the world. Ah well. You win some you lose some. 🙂
